University of Wyoming researchers have developed a novel wearable device, called 3DTouch,
which could revolutionize the way we interact with computers. While a
computer mouse is useful and has dominated the way we have interacted
with computers for the last 50 odd years, it is restricted to
two-dimensional movements; this new piece of technology would allow us
to interact in three-dimensions. The device has been described in arXiv.
Julian Melchiorri,
a graduate of the Royal College of Art, claims to have developed a silk
leaf that could create oxygen for space travel as well as make the air
nicer here on Earth. The leaf was developed in conjunction with a silk
lab from Tufts University

Chinese state media on Friday branded Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) iPhone a threat to national security because of the smartphone's ability to track and time-stamp user locations.
A report by broadcaster CCTV criticized the iPhone's "Frequent Locations" function for allowing users to be tracked and information about them revealed.
(Reuters) - A high-level female Yahoo Inc executive has been sued in California by a woman who worked under her and is accusing her former boss of sexual harassment and wrongful termination.
Maria Zhang, a senior director of engineering at Yahoo Mobile, has been sued by Nan Shi, who worked as a principal software engineer in Yahoo from February 2013, according to a complaint filed on July 8 in Santa Clara Superior Court in San Jose, California.

Earlier this May Windows 9 was previewed by a chosen few and sent out
word that the release date will be on Spring of 2015. Now rumors of an
earlier launch are circling the Internet world.
According to ZDNet, the newest version of Windows OS will come for preview this autumn. Codenamed Threshold, the
preview is also said to be moved from February to an earlier date.
Windows 9 is still expected to launch come Spring of 2015.

(Reuters) - Apple has poached a senior executive from Swiss luxury watch brand Tag Heuer, which could be to help it with the launch of its iWatch expected this autumn.
Tag Heuer, part of luxury goods group LVMH, said on Friday its vice president for sales, Patrick Pruniaux, who had been with the brand for seven years, was leaving on Monday to join Apple. It did not say what his new job would be.
Apple declined to comment.
The iWatch will be the closest the U.S. company has come to selling a fashion accessory and marks its first foray into the personal luxury goods market.

(Reuters) - Europe should update its laws to reflect the rise of digital currencies, the head of a bitcoin start-up said, after a successful U.S. auction of bitcoins was seen as a sign of their broadening appeal.
The virtual currency has come under the scrutiny of regulators in both the United States and Europe following a series of high-profile scandals such as the bankruptcy of Tokyo-based bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox.

Amazon.com Inc is fighting U.S. regulators' demands that it pay a penalty over its policies on purchases made by children on smartphone applications, according to documents seen by Reuters.
Amazon, the largest U.S. online retailer, faces a potential lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission, which wants the company to enter into a settlement similar to the one reached with rival Apple Inc in January.
At issue are in-app purchases, in which apps that are downloaded for free onto a smartphone or tablet then charge users for additional services through registered credit cards. Consumers say that children are susceptible to the practice, leading to large bills.
Amazon, which has built a rapidly growing business around its Kindle mobile devices and last month unveiled its own smartphone, said in a letter to the FTC it has already met or exceeded the requirements of Apple's terms.
"The commission's unwillingness to depart from the precedent it set with Apple despite our very different facts leaves us no choice but to defend our approach in court," Andrew DeVore, an Amazon associate general counsel, said in the July 1 letter.
Purchases of digital goods -- from extra game lives to special in-game tools -- are key to the success of tech companies' app stores, which in turn drive usage and mobile device sales.
In January, Apple agreed to refund customers at least $32.5 million and change its billing practices to ensure it obtains consent from parents before charging for in-app spending.
The FTC is pushing Amazon to refund customers, give up any profits from inappropriate activity and to compensate for the FTC's costs.
Many parents who discover the charges and want a refund face "significant hurdles to doing so," the FTC said in a draft of its complaint, adding that the process remains unclear, confusing and without clear instructions for obtaining a refund.
Amazon said it was "deeply disappointing" that weeks of negotiations failed to sway regulators.
In its letter, Amazon said it refunded customers who complained that their children made purchases they did not want. The letter said Amazon's app store included "prominent notice of in-app purchasing, effective parental controls and real-time notice of every in-app purchase."
The FTC declined to comment, saying it "is focused on ensuring that companies comply with the fundamental principle that consumers should not be made to pay for something they did not authorize."
"Consumers using mobile devices have the same long-established and fundamental consumer protections as they would anywhere else," the FTC said.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the news. The Journal reported that the FTC said Amazon would need to make notices of in-app purchases more prominent, require passwords for all purchases and make refunds simpler and easier.- REUTERS
